  1. The purpose of any social media is to get enough information about the girl sitting behind you in class without actually talking to her.
I usually use social media to stalk people that are just too stubborn to meet new people.

  4. To me , social media is a wide range of websites and social communities which help people know everything about anything. It gives you the privilege to dig up information with the click of a button. Because of social media, people have an easy way to communicate with one another without the fear of having to encounter them in the "real world". Social media basically destroys privacy.

    1. By "destroys privacy" you mean allowing people to destroy other people's privacy by reaching all private information ? That is in a negative way or do you mean that media helps people interact without obstacles facing them ?

  5. Social media engagement is the interaction of users over social networks. Based on my personal experience, social media is best related to the time people spend on various social networks such as Facebook and twitter.

  6. Social media engagement resembles the ability to blend in the society's daily issues. It is how people stay in-touch, up to date, and well informed. Recently, moodle usage has become one of the most frequent social media engagements.

  8. Social media engagement is to be an active member in the large network of communication consisting of all social media. This has become an obsession and an addiction for most people nowadays.

  9. For me , social media engagement is a way for people to get to know each other , although some may use the social media in a way to stalk other people wich is not its purpose , and not acceptable !

    1. Everyone has the right to stalk others on the Internet. If it's not acceptable, why do you a Facebook account if you refuse to let people check out your timeline and look through your pictures? (The ones you have as Friends). Also, Facebook developed very precise privacy options. You can have the same picture appearing on your friends' news feed, but not on your ex-girlfriend's. Haha.

  10. Social media are essential in our new way of living because it informs on what’s happening around us, it helps us interact with it, express our opinion and see how others think of it. It’s really effective in country where freedom of expression is absent or where the rich people rule regardless of the poor.

  11. Social Media Engagement is the level of commitment one has towards a certain media form, depending on the degree of importance this social media has on the person. Although a lot of adults keep on complaining about our obsession, this engagement can offer many advantages; we don't always tweet about what we ate, or post selfies on Facebook, but can use social media to achieve higher goals (awareness, criticize...).

  12. Social media engagement means being committed or 'engaged' to social networks.
This is supposed to be a sign of development, but in my opinion being 'engaged' to social media makes us as ignorant as it makes us educated and informed...

  13. Social media engagement is basically how the world interacts with each other. Through it we can connect with people from all around the world. Facebook and twitter are examples of it. It is actually very helpful since you are able to stay in touch with anyone even when you no longer see them.

  14. Social media engagement is primarily knowing whats happening around you. It is the most popular way of getting to know information and events NOT GIRLS....ONLY REAL MEN GET GIRLS, NOT STALKERS ;) !

  16. Every social network has its own definition of engagement and every social media administration system has its own description of it as well. If you’re using Twitter, it uses one definition for reporting short and fast texts. Facebook will have another. Instagram yet one more, and so on and so forth. But all fall under the same purpose: Human interaction. As for my personal experience, I would have never remembered anyone's birthday if it wasn’t for Facebook. Hahaha.

  17. Engagement in social media is the ability to reach out and get a response from an audience(family,friends,strangers...).Although most people don't admit it, social media engagement is mostly about attention. Who gets more likes, comments, followers, views...Social media has created its own community where people seek for attention and interaction.

  19. The integration of social media into our lives has made it becomes a crucial aspect of our daily routine as we continuously try to stay up to date with the latest social trends. In addition, most social media including twitter, tumblr, instagram, etc have become ways for us, social network users, to reveal our personal latest news to friends, family, and even strangers. We all know that there's no such thing as privacy when it comes to social networks, but we still use them because it has become part of the norm, and as shallow as that may sound, it is undeniable that us humans try our best to follow what's trendy and normal, it makes us feel more up to date and more 'social'.
I personally use social networks to meet new people, interact with the people I already know, and express personal emotions and interests.

  20. To me, social media is a good source of keeping up with what my relatives all around the world are doing and it benefits me when i wanna come forth with a religious message(or any certain sensitive subject)that the people reading it will be more prone to contemplate on/accept in a media source rather than in a face-to-face conversation.

  21. To define social media engagement, one must get back to the true purpose of media. in fact, media was the only medium for us to interact, communicate and evolve.
Take it as its the way for all of us human beings to share ideas, pictures and knowledge.
In addition, were mediums were the meeting point for many races and socialistions.

  22. Social media engagement is an essential way for interaction between people worldwide. However, sometimes this interaction tends to be a negative one depending on how people engage with it. Also, social media networks like facebook , twitter, instagram and lots more keep people in direct contact through comments and chatting. Thus, this type of engagement has become and indispensable factor for living by transforming the world into a smaller one. I don't think that this social media engagement will ever stop, but I can assure that it will be spreading more and more.

  23. Social Media Engagement is a way for everyone throughout the world to communicate, elaborate and share their thinking on the web. Facebook, Twitter and myspace are the best example in my opinion. Nevertheless, social media sometimes takes our privacy away, allowing everyone, and literally everyone to check on us on the internet; if we take a look at the Facebook privacy policies for example, we see that someone can actually go through all our personal information, extract all the data we have ever posted and deleted from the web. So Social Media websites are a very useful and efficient tools for us to express ourselves, but sometimes those websites "betray" their users; So be careful whenever you post something online!!!

  24. I think that social media can really help in improving the world or making changes or even defending some causes. For example, the Arab Spring started on Twitter, then it caused many revolutions in different Arab countries. Or also we can find the Anonymous who are a group of people who met on the internet and who are using social media to defend a certain cause. And finally on Facebook for example we can find lately hundreds of groups and pages who are inviting people to join them in order to defend a certain cause, that could be either political, economical, environmental, social or else.

  25. Social media engagement is an obligation rather than a choice. When we think about social media, all that comes to mind is facebook and twitter and so we can understand the main goal of social media : deviating our thoughts from the important things taking place in the world. Pessimistic you might say, but that's actually the truth. Being active and engaged in social media means that you are missing a lot of what you should know and react to. And although social media engagement in its simple definition means being socially active and bonding with people of different mentalities through a simple application or communicating with people of different identities and ethnic backgrounds, social media is a much more complicated conspiracy. That being said, and as the famous Lebanese commercial says:" Leave your laptop, go out and socialize!"

  26. Social media is clearly the revolution of our generation. Almost everyone of us is engaged in social media by being a member in any social network like Facebook or twitter. It's the fastest way to communicate with each others, and the easiest way of being updated with news around us. However, there is no room for privacy in this large world of media.

  27. I believe social media grew so powerful that in every instant of our lives we directly or indirectly use it wether through whatsapp , facebook , twitter ... etc . It mostly turned to be a legalized way to stalk people and maybe steal their personal info . However , we are forced to use it just for being up to date . In my opinion , social media is nothing but a new cause for the rapid increase of car accidents and for the failure of social problems mainly face to face interactions .

  28. Social Media Engagement in my own opinion has become a "forced obligation" for people, meaning that one HAS to own a facebook account for example to stay in touch otherwise the person is thrown into a cave of oblivion where they hear nothing from the people they know.

  29. Social Media consists of all the interactions people have where they exchange information in virtual communities. Beneficial in hindsight, however it has made man become a slave to the virtual networks and the internet.

  30. Social media engagement for me is checking your phone for updates at least twice a day and making sure you didn't miss new posts.

  31. Social media seems to be the dominant force nowaday. We face it where ever we are and whatever we are doing.Social media is the main cause of social interaction. Moreover, people use it as an easy way to commuicate and stay updated with whats happening all over.

  32. Social media engagement is the interaction occurring between people and social networks notably Facebook, and twitter where we communicate with others and share thoughts and feelings while being updated about a variety of news. It's a means of socializing that makes a bond between the person and social networks so that it becomes an important part of his life.

  33. Personally I believe that social media is like a revolution that changed the world. It facilitated connection between people and nowadays people are able to communicate in various ways. Some people that have grown distant from each other reunited through facebook after many years had passed which is something impressive indeed. We can never ignore the fact that it is very hard to live without social media. However we should be careful not to become imprisoned by social media and we should not let it control us. As long as we use our brains and use social media in the right way, their is no reason for it to disappear or end. We all know that it will definitely never end.

  34. The purpose of the social media as mostly mentioned above is to spread information about absolutely anything. In fact, it's obvious that it's the fastest way to pass out any kind of information including news, pics, events, etc..

  35. The media is considered one of many communication tools that assists in interaction between people of different cultures increasing our knowledge and awareness of other communities. Through facebook, instagram, and others one can simply show or tell the world what he is doing by a click of a button. This is how powerful media can be! It gives us the opportunity to socialize and be part of a favored groups that we belong and chose to be in.

    1. I think the social media is the main tool used in interactions between people and the other things "assist" it

    2. Social media is not a secondary assistant, it is the primary and main tool for interaction since cross-cultural interaction would almost null if it weren't for social media. It forms the base for interaction while other communication tools assist it.

  36. The social media is the cornerstone of our generation. I mean i can't imagine my life without a phone with whatsapp and internet really, and i don't think you can either. It would be really hard to adjust to a life without social media cause everything is being done through it, mainly socializing for me at least. However, many other things can be done through social media, everything actually. I mean the spark that initiated a cascade of revolutions occurred through the social media after all and that proves my point.

  37. Put simply, social media engagement is when someone asks you if you have Facebook and you reply "no" and they get that surprised look on their face as if its a taboo. This is how engaged we are in social media, it takes up the better part of our day: checking for Twitter updates, posting events on Facebook and such.

There is no denial to how important the role of social media has become. Companies market themselves via social media all the time. In some cases it was more effective than using TV ads or billboards and with much fewer costs.

On a more personal level, social media is basically the 21st century equivalent of our Lebanese "sobhiyye". It consumes our time, yet we enjoy it and we probably can not live without it.

  38. Social media engagement is the level of interaction between the individual and the global social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. These social networks have been so strongly incorporated in our lifestyles that it might be quasi-impossible to find an individual not indulged in social networking. These are time-consuming and very distracting from the important things in life and reality itself.
However, it should be said that social media is not all that bad,as we've seen in our personal experience that it has extremely beneficial aspects since it facilitates interactions between cultures all around the world.
Thus,it is safe to say that media now forms an important infrastructure in the architecture of society.

  39. Social media can be seen as a double-edged sword. While social media does give rise to many benefits including that in advertising for big companies, and aiding in interactions of many forms and kinds, it does lead to many negative aspects. It diverts our attention from significant things, and can even lead to addictions in the much younger generations, like that of Facebook and Twitter addictions.
Lets not also forget that social media can be used as a weapon to initiate wars, and can even be used to destroy and disrupt civilization images and disrupt the public's personal and ethical opinions.
Personally I enjoy the benefits of social media, and cannot divert away from it for more than a day, it has become a widely known aspect of every individual's life. It helps facilitate our lives in every way and it will still do so in the future, but as the saying goes, give a man a stick and he'll carve a spear.

  40. When we think about social media, the first thing that comes to our mind is Facebook and twitter, but this is not the only aim of media. Social media has various types and can be thought of in different ways. Its integration into our lives is without doubt crucial and helped the world to improve. Nowadays no one can live without being updated about his surrounding. Thus media enabled us to communicate with each other and made the world appear as one single country. Unfortunately, in these days, no privacy is left in a world that is dominated by media.

  41. I would define the "Social Media Engagement" as the base of the new era. Where computers and technological devices are an essential part of our lives; be it for communicating, researching or even entertainment. Social media has made its way into our homes and it will be a permanent guest. Ideed it has helped education and learninf due to its quick feature and wide information available. But its also taking over our lives and i would say it is a form of manipulation. we think what social media wants us to think.
